Easy Sudoku Puzzles

Print a set of easy 9x9 sudoku with answers, or play one on screen.

Easy Sudoku is a free tool that makes classic 9x9 easy sudoku puzzles, which you can print with answers or solve on screen. It runs in your web browser, needs no sign-up and nothing to install, and nothing is uploaded, because each puzzle is made on your device. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, which the built-in solver checks before the puzzle is shown.

Easy here means every puzzle can be finished with the two simplest techniques, so the page suits beginners, children who know the rules, and anyone who wants a relaxed solve. The tool opens on the Print tab, where you choose how many puzzles go on each page and how many pages to make. Switch to the Play tab to solve a puzzle on screen.

How to use the Easy Sudoku tool

  1. On the Print tab, set the number of puzzles per page (1, 2, 4 or 6) and the number of pages (1 to 20).
  2. Choose US Letter or A4 paper, and the number of pages from 1 to 20.
  3. Leave “Add answer pages at the end” on if you want answers. Turn on “Show title and difficulty above each puzzle” if you want a label on each puzzle.
  4. Check the preview of page 1 and its answer page.
  5. Click “Print / Save as PDF”. In the browser print dialog, choose “Save as PDF” as the destination to get a file.
  6. To solve on screen, open the Play tab and click a cell. Then click a number on the number pad or type a digit.
  7. Click the Pencil button (or press P or Space) to write small candidate notes instead of a digit.
  8. Use Hint when you are stuck, or Check to see wrong cells marked in red.

You can move between cells with the arrow keys, enter digits by typing them, and erase with Backspace. The Play tab also has options for marking repeated digits in red and removing pencil marks automatically. Click Copy link to get a link that opens the same puzzle on another device.

How to play easy sudoku

Fill the 9x9 grid so that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. The digits already in the grid are clues, and you cannot change them. Each puzzle has exactly one solution, so every correct placement moves you toward the same finished grid.

Easy puzzles can be solved with two techniques. A Naked Single is a cell where only one digit fits, once you account for its row, column and box. A Hidden Single is a digit that can go in only one cell of a row, column or box, even if that cell could hold other digits too. Place the obvious digits first, because each placement can reveal new singles. You do not need guessing to finish an easy puzzle.

Are easy sudoku good for beginners or kids?

Yes, easy sudoku suits beginners because every puzzle on this page can be finished with Naked Singles and Hidden Singles alone. That makes it a good first step before medium or hard puzzles, which need more advanced techniques. Children who are learning the rules can use the same puzzles. For younger children or first-timers who want an even smaller grid, the 4x4 and 6x6 pages are an option.

How many clues does an easy sudoku have?

In a sample of 20 puzzles from the site’s generator, easy 9x9 puzzles had 37 to 40 clues. For comparison, medium puzzles had 26 to 29 clues and hard puzzles had 26 to 30. The clue count does not decide difficulty. Difficulty depends on which techniques are needed, so medium and hard puzzles have about the same number of clues.

Can I print easy sudoku with answers?

Yes. “Add answer pages at the end” is on by default. The answer grids are smaller, several fit on each page, and they are numbered to match the puzzles. Each puzzle has a label such as “Sudoku — Easy — #3”, so you can match answers to puzzles easily. Click “Print / Save as PDF” to save the whole set, answers included, as one file.

Can I play it online?

Yes. Open the Play tab to solve a puzzle in your browser. Progress is saved on this device, so a reload continues the same puzzle. To continue on another device, click Copy link, which opens exactly the same puzzle there.

Frequently asked questions

Is every easy sudoku puzzle solvable?

Every puzzle the site makes has exactly one solution, and the built-in solver checks this before the puzzle is shown. Easy puzzles on this page can be finished using logic alone, without guessing.

What is the difference between easy and medium sudoku?

Easy puzzles need only Naked Singles and Hidden Singles. Medium puzzles need locked candidates or naked and hidden pairs, which are harder to spot. The difference is in the techniques, not the number of clues.

What do I do if I get stuck?

Press Hint. It highlights the cells for the next step, names the technique (such as Hidden Single), and explains it in one sentence. If one of your digits is wrong, it tells you to fix that first.

What does pencil mode do?

Pencil mode writes small candidate notes in a cell instead of a digit. With “Remove pencil marks automatically” turned on, placing a digit removes that digit’s notes from the cells it can see.

Can I print the same puzzles again?

Yes. Each set has a seed, shown in the page footer and in the Seed field under “Repeat or share this set”. The same seed with the same settings always gives the same puzzles.

Can the tool show me mistakes?

Yes. Turn on “Mark repeated digits in red” to see clashing digits, or click Check to mark wrong cells in red and see how many cells are still empty.

Can I undo a move?

Yes. Use undo and redo in the Play tab, or press Ctrl/Cmd+Z to undo and Ctrl/Cmd+Y to redo.
