Free Windoku Puzzles — Window Sudoku Online

Sudoku with four additional shaded 3×3 windows that each must also contain each digit once.

Windoku adds four symmetrically placed 3×3 window regions to the standard grid. Each window must contain digits 1-9, creating overlapping constraint chains that experienced solvers find deeply satisfying.

What is Windoku?

Windoku (also called Window Sudoku or NRC Sudoku) adds four fixed 3×3 window regions to the standard sudoku grid. The windows are placed symmetrically and each must contain digits 1-9, in addition to standard row, column, and box rules.

Window Region Positions

  • Top-left window: rows 2-4, columns 2-4
  • Top-right window: rows 2-4, columns 6-8
  • Bottom-left window: rows 6-8, columns 2-4
  • Bottom-right window: rows 6-8, columns 6-8

Solving Strategy

The key insight in Windoku is that window regions overlap with standard 3×3 boxes. A cell can belong to both a box and a window, giving it up to 4 constraint regions. Use this overlap to find hidden singles faster than in standard sudoku.

What is the difference between Windoku and standard sudoku?

Windoku adds four 3×3 window regions positioned symmetrically in the grid. Each window must contain digits 1-9. These extra regions overlap with standard boxes, creating additional constraint chains.

How is Windoku different from Hyper Sudoku?

Windoku and Hyper Sudoku both add four window regions, but place them in slightly different positions. This creates different constraint interactions and solving patterns.
